Functional Combinations

Functional Combination is a theory I’ve been working on for the past year. It relies on ones ability to combine the cognitive functions to create a fake version of the function, or to allow for more swift movement in the way two of your functions work.

A tiny introduction to cognitive functions is in order. When I say cognitive functions I refer to the functions in the Jung classification. These functions are Extroverted and Introverted, Feeling and Thinking, Sensing and Intuition, and Judging and Perceiving. They are eight functions in general which are (in most cases) listed in the abbreviated state. These functions range from: Extroverted Intuition (Ne), Introverted Intuition (Ni), Introverted Thinking (Ti), Extroverted Thinking (Te), Extroverted Sensing (Se), Introverted Sensing (Si), Introverted Feelings (Fi), and Extroverted Feelings (Fe).

As you see these are the functions that I’ve used in my past Snowflake theory, and as I said there, it is a bit more complicated then just separated functions. Each of these functions are combined together into a group of four to create a personality type called an MBTI type, or Jung type by a few. There are 16 of these types, and according to my snowflake theory a handful of subtypes.

Nonetheless how do these Functions combine and how can the be used? When a personality type is stressed it goes into what I call a ‘Stress Type’. A type that is only called upon in times of great stress. A stress type is not to be confused for a ‘Shadow Type’.

A shadow type is caused by shock and mental or emotional damages. A person can revert to a shadow type for years, and a shadow type can be adopted as the main type of the person if they’re not treated. Some people are immune to reverting to a shadow type due to their mental defenses. A shadow type is your complete opposite type, or a reverse in your cognitive functions. A stress type lasts for less then six months and the people inflicted are normally aware that they’re not themselves. A stress type is one of the ways functional combination appears as it takes your functions and creates a distorted, or fake, functions. This grants the user a new take for a short amount of time. Even so, the new personality is not a gift. When your functions combine due to stress the newly formed personality type will be made mostly of the negative traits of the regular version of that personality.

See that guy to the right? He’s a prime example
of a Stressed Type, thought technically speaki-
ng he isn’t a stressed person but instead a im-
perfect clone of superman! They took superm-
an’s functions and distorted them to create
Bizarro.

Bizarro has been called Superman’s exact opposite but I don’t think he is. I think that because he’s not a good guy like superman and he does have some opposite traits he is thought of as the opposite of superman. However, Superman is an ESFJ and Bizarro is definitely not INTP. Bizarro is more in line to be a crazy ENFJ.

Now that we’ve gotten our example allow us to take a look at the traits that differ and let me explain which functions combine to create the fake functions. ENFJ’s are composed of Fe|Ni|Se|Ti. While ESFJ’s are composed of Fe|Si|Ne|Ti.

The different functions are Se|Si & Ne|Ni. So how does Superman get stressed into Bizarro? It’s actually quick straight forward. To create a somewhat fake Ni Superman splices together Ne, Si, and a tiny bit of Ti. The Ne is used to find patterns and possibilities while Si is used to look at traditions and complex memories. Ne mixes with Si to create a warped sense of knowing what is coming due to the past experiences and ability to pick out the best possibility. A little Ti is used to help analyze the data coming in.

Se is done in pretty much the same way exact exchange Si with Fe and Ti with Si. Ne and Fe mix together to allow someone to read the environment and can be used to make another person believe that the combination knows all the things going on around them. They seem to have pay great attention to detail but in reality that is Si helping to take in experiences then outputting them to Ne and Fe to read. There you have it. We just took two traits from superman and turned him into Bizarro. Bizarro being the negative side (and crazy) side of the ENFJ would pretty much be how superman would act if he was stressed into being Bizarro.

Another quick example of this would be Bizarro Batman. Batman in his regular moods flip flops between INTJ and ISTJ. Which would make his complete opposite ESFP or ENFP. Yet, Bizarro Batman is more along the lines of an ENTP or ESTP.

Looking at the functions we can tell that the difference between the functions are Ti|Te & Fe|Fi. Combining Se and Ti can create a fake version of Te. Se notices all the details while Ti organizes in the head. By having Se take the dominate position it forces Ti to organize outside the head and creates a simulated version of Te.

For Introverted Feelings you combine Ti with Fe and add a touch of Ne. The Ti is dominate so that forces Fe to keep all emotions inside. Fe will instinctively look at the emotions and know what another person is feeling. The trick here is that the fake Fi will do the same thing but instead of knowing its not their emotions it will force Fe users to see things as if they were. Ne is used to help find a little more possibility, and Ti is also there to force your thoughts onto the feelings and make you “think” they’re your feelings. A fictitious Fi

What I demonstrated here was the main way that functions combine. I don’t want to leave out any details so I will tell you that there are some people whose minds naturally combine functions when they need them. These are the people who normally score right on the line and I’m sorry to say they will never know what their actual type is, because unlike stress typed, this is an all natural ability that is already there without stress. They are chameleons.

There are also people who train their functions to be able to bend in this form. They analyze their functions, they know themselves, and they know that it would be useful to have the ability to appear another type or create a fraudulent function. I like to call these people pseudo-chameleons. They’re very smart, and “most” of the have bad intentions.

PS. If you’re wondering what type I go to when stressed it is INTJ. I change from an ENTP to an overbearing, detailed planning type and can get obsessed in myself.
